Founder Laura Wentling, a Certified Senior Advisor, started in home care at 18; her husband, a veteran and retired police officer, and their three children work in the business. It is a licensed agency with employee caregivers and a registered nurse on staff for supervision, and it is not a franchise. Its Soquel office serves Santa Cruz County, including Soquel, Santa Cruz, Watsonville, Live Oak, Capitola, Rio del Mar, Interlaken, Aptos, Ben Lomond, Pleasure Point, Boulder Creek, Twin Lakes, Felton, Freedom, Day Valley, Bonny Doon and Scotts Valley. Services include companion and personal care, Alzheimer's and dementia care, respite care (including as a partner in Medicare's GUIDE program for dementia), hospice support, hospital-to-home care, care management, veterans care and transportation. Familiar Surroundings accepts long-term care insurance and helps veterans with VA benefits.
