The Heart Behind Golden Care, Porsha Vogt

Some home care companies start with a business plan.

Golden Care started with a family story.

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Porsha Vogt, owner of Golden Care in San Diego, and hear the very personal reason she entered home care more than 13 years ago.

Porsha's Aunt Alice had MS and lived alone. At the time, her family did not know that home care was even an option.

After a tragic fall at home, Alice passed away.

That experience stayed with Porsha.

She built Golden Care with a mission to make sure other families know that support is available before a crisis happens.

What also stood out in our conversation was how Golden Care defines concierge home care.

It is not simply placing a caregiver in the home.

Their model includes:

Experienced caregivers with a genuine heart for seniors
Care managers who provide additional oversight and support
Spontaneous check-ins to make sure things are going well
A registered nurse as part of the care management team
A strong understanding of senior resources throughout San Diego County

Porsha said something that I hear often from great home care owners:

You can teach skills.

You cannot teach someone to truly care.

That philosophy is reflected in the way Golden Care hires, manages care, and supports families.
