For Marcus O’Malley, Owner and Director of Caring Excellence at Home’s Northern Kentucky office, that journey is personal.
After walking through his own family’s caregiving experience when his mom passed away, Marcus knew he wanted to do work that was meaningful and impactful. Today, he helps families across all nine counties of Northern Kentucky find compassionate support at home.
Caring Excellence at Home is family-owned and not a franchise. The organization began 14 years ago when Marcus’s mother-in-law, an RN, launched the original location in Louisville. Now, the next generation of the family is serving communities across Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
One thing Marcus emphasized is the importance of caring for caregivers well.
“We can train you how to care for people. We can’t train you to care about people.”
That philosophy guides how Caring Excellence at Home hires, trains, and supports its caregivers. When caregivers feel valued, families benefit from greater consistency, stronger relationships, and familiar faces week after week.
Home care is not just about tasks like laundry, dishes, errands, or meal preparation. It is about giving families time back.
It allows adult children to visit Mom or Dad and simply be present again — to share lunch, watch a game, have tea, or make a memory — while a trusted caregiver helps with the work in the background.
